Ducted Air Conditioners
What is a Ducted Air Conditioner?
A Ducted Air Conditioner is a large unit which cools and/or heats multiple rooms via ducting in the ceiling or floor. The air is distributed through diffusers as shown below.
A Ducted Air Conditioner consists of two main units, there is an indoor unit in the roof space or under the floor, and a outdoor unit which would be a large box located outside of the building. The brand of your unit would be labelled on the outdoor unit but may be faded or gone due to age.
Some ducted systems are installed with zones. These have their own controls, which could be integrated in to the wall control or on a separate switch plate (like a light switch). Each zone has its own individual motor and their life span is not always the same as the indoor/outdoor unit.
Care & Maintenance
Ducted Air Conditioners have an air filtration system which collects dust and dirt particles in the air and stops these particles being distributed through the air vents into the air you breathe.
Filters are available in two types
Disposable filters have a cardboard frame and should be replaced every 6-12 months. We can supply these at an additional cost for you to replace or one of our technicians can attend site to replace them for you. Details of the filter regarding size will need to be supplied as these are not a stock item in our vehicles.
The fabric filters are in a metal frame and in most cases the grill opens on a hinge and the frame slides out. This should be cleaned with a garden hose outside with water every 3-6 months. If the filter media is pulled, frayed or has holes and the frame is still in good working order we can replace the “fabric” for you at an additional cost.
